Studio Manager Sam Solum is happy to share the benefits of backbends, which are largely connected with opening the front side of the body. By creating space in the hips and heart we can access the nervous system, reverse the physical effects of everyday activities (sitting, running, walking, etc) and gain spinal health.

Yoga at the State House 2018
SATURDAY June 16, 10 am-NOON
Previously known as Yoga on State Street, this year we are continuing to host our class on the steps of the iconic Vermont Statehouse, Yoga at the State House 2018. The class is family friendly, free, includes a live raffle, benefits an excellent cause and a great way to get involved in the local community. The past 2 years combined we have hosted over 150 yogis and we are hoping to attract even more this year!
All proceeds raised go directly to Prevent Child Abuse Vermont (PCAVT). Prevent Child Abuse Vermont has been serving youth and families in Vermont for 40 years by creating, adopting, and carrying out innovative, proven effective prevention programs. During the 2015 calendar year, PCAVT’s statewide programs served over 18,000 Vermont children, teens, and adults through direct service and training.
Coupled with Montpelier’s outdoor farmers market, this is an excellent excuse to get out and enjoy all the capital city has to offer!

Inversions w/ Chrissy
Saturday Night, Jan 20, 6-8 pm
at Grateful Yoga
I've already dubbed 2018 the Year of Love. Learn to LOVE inverting your body. This workshop is for all yogis, new to well-seasoned, who are open to fresh perspectives about being upside down. A favorite among Grateful Yogis including myself, I am stoked to offer this workshop again in the New Year!!
What to bring:
- Your yoga mat! If you don't have your own, we have plenty free for your use at the studio.
- A sweat towel or bandanna. Not just for sweat, but also for various exercises on approaching certain inversions.
- Snacks or water if you need them to feel strong and focused, but not a full, heavy stomach for flipping upside down!
- Camera for photos/videos to remind yourself, document progress and share with Grateful Yoga.
- No experience needed. Safe approaches, techniques and styles will be introduced along the way. There will be plenty to learn and succeed at for beginners and hand-standers alike!
COST: $35 pre-register (limited space!)
$40 drop-in (if space is available!)

BODY HIGH: Arm Balancing & Inversions Playshop
With Sarah Lesser
When we get inverted we provide our bodies with an impressively long list of health benefits in our physical bodies as well as our energetic or subtle bodies. Getting our feet in the air utilizes gravity to move oxygen rich blood to our hearts and brains which in turn invigorates the body and mind, improves mental functions, calms the nervous system, increases immunity, and builds confidence... all of which makes us FEEL SO GOOD! That incredible feeling when you melt down into child's pose after gracefully (or not, it's all good!) exiting your headstand is more than just excitement about nailing a new pose- it's chemical, it's energetic, you're actually feeling endorphins and prana flowing through you. This playshop (cause why work when you can play?!) is all about finding that warm, glowing feeling through a variety of arm and hand balances!
Expect a good warm up, relevant body mechanics and alignment info, yummy stretches and prep poses, strength and conditioning exercises specifically tailored to each posture we'll be playing in, and a chance to practice any and every arm balance/ inversion (and learn how to safely fall out/ exit) in a welcoming, supportive environment where you can feel free and safe to truly play around and try new things. This playshop is OPEN TO ALL LEVELS and all people!

Ever wish you had a little extra time to explore your practice unguided? Sometimes this is hard to do at home, with the distraction of our obligations surrounding us. (Laundry! Emails! ) Grateful yoga is now offering up the studio space for yogis to come together and support one another as we practice independently. Whether it's arm balances, or creating your own sun salutes, or learning Sanskrit that you are most interested in, here is the time and place to go deeper. All Grateful Yogis welcome!
Come to an early morning Ashtanga yoga practice group! In this series you will have the experience of developing your individual practice as a meditative flow led by your own breath together with a community of other yogis. This is a great opportunity for people of all levels- whether you are wanting to memorize the primary series at your own pace, if you are experienced with the practice and wish to develop a regular routine, or if you are interested in expanding/advancing your practice by exploring postures from the intermediate series.
***This is a practice group, not a traditional Mysore session facilitated with attention from an instructor. There will be no teacher leading a class, doing adjustments, or providing any sort of guidance or instruction. There will be print outs available with illustrations of the primary and intermediate series to reference if you are learning the practice.
Who: This is a great opportunity for yoga teachers, people with already established Ashtanga practices, and self motivated beginners looking for a space to study and teach themselves
When: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 6:30am-8:30am. Arrive to allow time to do your practice and leave by 8:30 am at the latest
